Book Portfolio

In the non fiction book Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser, Eric went around and collected information about the fast food restaurants around America. He got information on how they started and what their tactics were in making money when getting their business up and running. He went around and got all the information, so of course he wrote the book. The most important peace of information to get from this book would be that things that you think are good and healthy are actually just as bad as the things you try to avoid. Through out the United States, the fast food restaurants grew quickly. Restaurants such as Mc Donald’s, Burger King, KFC, Tim Horton’s, Wendy’s and many others were all among them. They use certain tactics to lure children in too buy their food. Most people know that fast food is bad for you, but there are still many people that eat it. The theme is all fast food is bad no matter what is advertised. This is significant because Americans who only eat fast food will soon develop problems later on in life with weight and maybe even diabetes.

Fast food is bad no matter what people tell you. The fact that in one burger there is not just from one cow but from many different cows. When you eat a burger your eating fat, grease, cholesterol, and other such additives that are not good for your body. Also not too mention the disease that could strike at any moment at a billion places, because if one cow has a disease it will infect millions of burgers across the nation and millions of people. Also the conditions in which the burgers come in. The factories that the burgers you eat come from, girls are rapes, men and women are getting cuts and limbs cut off. The fact that one of these personnel could also have some affections disease that could get spread around the world. Also the problems the burger itself causes. The grease, fat and all the others bad things in them cause most Americans who eat it all the time to be over weight and eventually could cause diabetes from the excessive amount of salt, cholesterol, fat and more.

Fast food has a bad impact on everyone. Back when there was no such thing as a fast food restaurant you would notice that men, women and children had a healthier life then most Americans do now. They did not eat all that bad additives in there meal because it was grown right from their own garden. As the years went by Americans weight problem and health problem grew more and more by the increasing number of fast food restaurants growing an the United States. Fast Food Nation was written to inform people better of where their food is coming from and what the history of the fast food business is like. Everything was told in a matter or fact way that was believable and factual. One said "During the same years when the working conditions at Americans meat marketing plants become more dangerous - when the line speeds increases and illegal immigrants replaced skilled workers - the federal government greatly reduced the enforcement of health and safety laws." Throughout Fast Food Nation, it has been proven that there is more to the meal your getting then what you think. We all knew that fast food was bad, but now we know just how bad it really is. So next time you go to Burger King, or Mc Donald’s, think about just what it is your really eating.

Fast Food restaurants give you all the bad food anyone could imagine. The theme in the book tells us that fast food is bad for you and that the business of making fast food is through a bad process of rape, unsanitary, and illegal making. While the workers work the bosses of the factory rape girls, while unsanitary conditions threaten us with sickness. In history Americans health has declined due too the fast food that has been served to U.S. citizens for so long, and also the rising weight problem also due the fast food. So while we are enjoying a nice tasty burger, think about that fat, grease, cholesterol and the thought about the process they gone through within the factories. When you hear what in and what happens when these burgers are made you will always remember it the next you go to eat another burger. So if this will be in your mind every time you eat a burger the effectiveness is great to any person who reads this book. It’s important to understand the theme because it could help some Americans lose weight and maybe if the world knew it could change the health factor for Americans. And maybe if the factories lose money and shut down there could be less violence and misconduct going on and nothing illegal would happen no more.

Valley Fordge Letter

Dear Dayna

I miss you so, I hope everything is going well for you back at home, and the family too. I myself is doing fine. I have not yet suffered from a could or a wound but my soul has dampemd from the on going of coldness and of longoing to go home to you. This ignorant war has lasted for far too long Valley Fordge is a miserable and lonely place for a soldier. There 's death and disease everywhere, half the soldiers don't even have shoes and have gotten frost bite. The water is horrible there is waste I the water we drink because there are no where else to go. There are twelve men to each tents which is about the only thing that gave off heat to stay warm at nights. Our food is running short and people are starting to starve to death before we leave. The conditions are only getting worse. We dint know even if the french are willing to help us out in this time and if not we are doomed to run some more from the British.
For the past year we have been running from the British loosing battle after battle. Times then were not as worse as are now, the weather was warmer and the supplies were not dwindled to nothing. The only thing that us troops going was that one win at Trenton, this victory gave us some hope that we just might not lose everything to the British, that we might have some chance. Then we started running again, for miles and miles we ran fighting then running again until we arrived here at valley Fordge taking a break the battles but the coldness and shortage of supplies are doing it toll on the soldiers.
The only thing that keeps me going and not giving up is too know that when this is done I'll be coming home to you and the family. As the war goes on though all i have is memories and letters from you but till the time comes when I walk through the door you will be always be in my mind. I've been sick of running though this so called General George Washington has done nothing but run, run, run and I'm getting tired of losing and ruining. the next time i run will be to run right to our House and into your arms. I used to think that serving in the war would be a good thing, to help out your country and such, but how are you helping when all you do is run its really just putting us to shame and I'm tired of it all. I hate this war now in the beginning it wasn't so bad but now i despise it all. I could care less what we do now i just want to go home to you and the family and get aways from all this disease, death and war. I have to go I need to eat and gather some things for later events. I'll write again soon

Hope to see you soon my love
love your husband Gerald J. Henderson
